Army Career





Patrick Joseph Kilmartin joined the Irish Army during World War Two for two reasons;

Firstly, in order to provide for his family. In a period of significant shortage of produce for his shop business was very difficult and trading was poor, and he had a family to provide for.

Secondly to serve his county in a period of war, in which Ireland, although neutral, had to strengthen its armed forces.



Paddy K joined the Army as a Lieutenant in the 2nd Field Company Transport section, he joined at the age of 46.

Lieutenant Kilmartin Army No. 406544 served in the Ballsbridge Garrison and took his Honourable Discharge on 31.3.1946 with a pension of £20.9s.6d per annum
